Where to Find Resources on Garage Door Repair

10/11/2021

DIY garage door repairs are often pretty straightforward, but not all of them are safe for a homeowner to do on their own. (That’s the reason you’ve got people like us to call!). For instance, never – NEVER – try to mess with your garage door’s torsion spring. Torsion springs are best left to the professionals; they’re dangerous because they hold so much tension. Our blog is a great resource for anything you need to know about garage door repair, replacement, care and maintenance. But if you want a 2nd, 3rd or 14th opinion, there are other sites that can provide you with some garage door repair tips as well.

And if you can’t, or simply don’t want to, fix your garage door yourself, here’s a resource from Home Advisor on typical costs of garage door repairs in 2021:

Why You Should Convert to Garage Door Torsion Springs on Your Overhead Door

There are two types of springs for overhead garage doors. Older, smaller garage doors tend to have extension springs. These springs sit on either side of the door and use tension to help the opener lift and lower the door. They’re fine and all, but switching your garage door to a torsion spring system has its advantages. Torsion springs for overhead doors use torque to operate, and are more durable than extension springs. They also have a longer life because they last almost twice as many cycles. And because of where they sit on the door, they’re less susceptible to damage from the elements. Most garage doors can be converted to torsion spring systems. It’s definitely something to think about.
