When considering which kind of garage door to get, the type of material you choose can make all the difference when it comes to style, budget, and function. Wood and wood composite doors have a beautiful natural feel, but require more upkeep. Every few years, they’ll need to be sanded and repainted. Steel doors require less maintenance but are prone to dents. If you choose this route, you’ll definitely want one that has two layers of galvanized steel of at least 24 or 25 gauge. This will minimize dents. Aluminum is lightweight. The new aluminum doors on the market today are sturdy and heavy. You can also choose laminated panels that are dent resistant. A word of advice regarding aluminum doors: Don’t go too cheap. It will dent easily.
